Derek Newton is a seasoned IT security professional with advanced infrastructure and security experience in a wide range of organizational settings (small organizations through Fortune 500).  Mr. Newton’s diverse technical skills and experience allow him to bring a unique perspective to projects and to assist Stalwart’s clients in implementing complete and secure end-to-end solutions.  Derek has had the opportunity to work in senior roles in almost all aspects of Information Technology, including: Systems Engineering/Architecture, Network Engineering/Architecture, Technical Security Operations, Security Governance, Incident Response, Forensics, and Software Engineering. 

Mr. Newton’s most recent positions have revolved around IT Security, Incident Response, Forensics, and Network Engineering/Architecture.  Derek’s typical projects include:

IT SECURITY: Mr. Newton’s has extensive IT Security experience, including: security infrastructure architecture, implementation, and troubleshooting; security governance; penetration and security assessments; threat assessments; etc.  Derek is familiar with assessing, remediating, and implementing controls that assist companies with meeting compliance requirements (PCI, SOX, HIPAA, etc.).

INCIDENT RESPONSE: Derek has a great deal of experience in the area of incident response and was previously a senior member on a corporate IT security incident response team for a Fortune 500 company.  This experience enables Mr. Newton to quickly and effectively coordinate a response to attacks by advanced threats to organizations and ensure that appropriate controls are put in place to prevent further compromise.

FORENSICS: Mr. Newton’s thorough understanding of how operating systems and networks function allows him to perform investigative/forensic analysis related to computer systems in an effort to identify, locate, and remediate compromised systems.  Additionally Derek has a great deal of experience performing forensics for investigative purposes.

ENTERPRISE WIRELESS NETWORKS: Derek has led a number of initiatives involving the design, deployment, and securing of large enterprise wireless networks.  This includes designing and deploying related security infrastructure (RADIUS, Certificate Authorities, etc).

NETWORK ENGINEERING/ARCHITECTURE: Derek has designed network architecture and provided expert level support for large multi-national networks.  This includes designing, validating, and supporting cGMP qualified infrastructure systems within highly regulated environments.  Mr. Newton has extensive experience in isolating and resolving network problems, designing and implementing advanced network infrastructure, proactively designing solutions to prevent future issues, as well as advanced wireless deployment and support experience.
