Engineering Certifications
Despite all the hype, information security remains a relatively small, specialized field and professionals are not always easy to come by. Most IT professionals who claim to have security expertise have gotten only a haphazard exposure to some limited number of security products. Stalwart has a high percentage of engineers who hold one or more of the following certifications:
- CISSP (Certification for Information System Security Professional)
- GIAC (Global Information Assurance Certification)
- CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor)
A common shortcoming of many so-call "security firms" is their lack of in-depth knowledge of networking. Since ultimately security must be designed into the network, it is doubtful whether a firm can offer sound advice without possessing demonstrable expertise within layers 2, 3 and 4 of the OSI model. In addition to the top security certifications mentioned above, ensure that those who bill themselves as "security professionals" also hold at least a CCNP or CCDP (Cisco Certified Network/Design Professional) certification, or higher.
