Senior Security Engineer
The senior security engineer requires expertise in multiple areas of information security, including strategic security planning, design and implementation of security-related technology, vulnerability testing of networks and systems, ongoing support and administration of security infrastructure, etc.
While an engineer's specific talents may be more focused toward a given aspect of information security, a successful candidate must be knowledgeable in the following areas:
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Passion for the Information Security discipline
- BA/BS degree
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting & interpersonal skills
- 2+ years experience in information security
Technology-Related Skills:
- Network security: firewalls, intrusion detection, etc.
- OS security: Unix (Solaris) and NT
- Core application security: e-mail, DNS, Web servers
- Content security: URL filtering, anti-virus, e-mail filtering
- Vulnerability assessments/penetration testing
- Strong networking skills: network design and deployment, TCP/IP concepts and troubleshooting (e.g. routing, sub-netting)
- Strong OS skills: Unix (Solaris) and NT administration, configuration, loading & patching, troubleshooting, application installation
- Expertise with Cisco equipment a plus
Planning & Analytical Skills:
- Security policy development
- Risk assessments
Helpful Certifications:
- GIAC (Level 1 or 2)
- CISSP
- CCNP
A senior security engineer will be primarily responsible for the detailed design, deployment and support of all information security projects for clients. A senior security engineer may be called upon to assist pre-sales security analysts in conceptual designs, customer pre-sales meetings, product research, etc.
